Fraud & Scams

Scams & Fraud

Fraud – Although some of the older types of scams such as ‘phishing’ are still happening nowadays, fraudsters are constantly coming up with new and inventive ways to scam people. These scams sometimes cost individuals and companies thousands of Euros.

One of our sister companies was the victim of a 2 part scam attack recently.

Thankfully, the accumulated losses to ourselves was only in the region €28 due to our fraud protection measures and swift response which were acted on within minutes and allowed us to suspend services to them. We were also able to report the details to payment providers that we were suspicious of fraud and for them to stop the owners of those accounts becoming victims elsewhere. Through further communication, it was discovered that we were being paid through stolen cards. These stolen cards were also used to set up an elaborate phishing scam elsewhere. Therefore, our swift action limited the loss to ourselves, prevented further loss to the card account holders and also prevented further victims being created by closing down a phishing scam that they had created elsewhere.

The scary but honest truth is that in the time that we were able to do all of this, they most probably had another 2 scams created and running.

  • 1 in 4 victims new immediately they‚Äôd made a mistake.
  • 70% of potential financial fraud was prevented in the UK.
  • 33% of All Business Failures or Bankruptcies are due to theft and fraud.
  • The median time for fraud detection is 18 months.

Online fraud covers everything from online shopping to online banking, but one thing can help prevent both: take the time to install the built-in security measures most browsers and many banks offer. These can help protect you whether the criminals are trying to dupe you with fake pop-ups in your online banking window, sending you ‘scam alert’ messages hiding malware, or faking retailer websites to make you input your financial details.

  • Never disclose security details, such as your PIN or full banking password
  • Don‚Äôt assume an email, text or phone call is authentic
  • Don‚Äôt be rushed ‚Äì a genuine organization won‚Äôt mind waiting
  • Listen to your instincts ‚Äì you know if something doesn‚Äôt feel right
  • Stay in control ‚Äì don‚Äôt panic and make a decision you‚Äôll regret

Advertise Irish Jobs

To be able to advertise Irish jobs, easily and affordably, this was the opening line of a conversation which created our online jobs board website

The site that we created allows employers to easily register and post jobs online after paying a small fee. After their job posting has been approved, they can edit this advertisement throughout the posting period as many times as they wish.

As for the job seeker, the site allows candidates easily register, upload a C.V.  and apply for jobs using their registered C.V. The candidates can also edit there online profile as often as they wish.

Initially, the Team Jobs site was set up to gather intelligence and data to see whether a fully featured site would be built. We are pleased to announce that Team Jobs have given the green light to further enhance the site and to role out new features and services early 2017.

WebSite Maintenance

WebSite Maintenance

WebSite Maintenance

One of the main reasons that I took the decision to start writing posts at different intervals is to hopefully try and give knowledge to some of the issues that I encounter on a daily basis that the Website owner bury their head in the sand about. In most cases these bugs and fixes can be rectified in a very short amount of time by either a professional but, also quite often by the website owner themselves.

WebSite maintenance is a subject that I deal with every day, quite often due to enquiries where a site needs updating, or in the case of a CMS managed site like Word-Press, where the site has been updated and now some of the sites features are not working.

I first want to mention the importance of updating a sites content management system, theme or plugins. These updates are normally provided to prevent security attacks and threats to manipulate vulnerabilities within your sites files. For this reason alone, you should continually check for updates and make sure that they are activated. Other reasons would include to enhance the performance of your site.

As mentioned above, people quite often do not update there website files due to the fact that when they do, it changes certain features of the site that they never wanted to change and they worry about costs involved to change the files back again. The reason why your features have changed is not because of the update, its because the person who put together your site made the amendments in the core files which are the files that are set to change back to default settings with every update.

Therefore, WebSite maintenance is extremely important.

If you find that you have the same problem as above, one of our team would be happy to discuss a solution where your site can be constantly updated without affecting the content of your site. Email us at

Mobile Friendly Website

Mobile Friendly Websites

Why a Mobile Friendly Website? A big part of my business this year has been website re-designs. When I get an enquiry, the first questions that I get asked is why should I have a mobile friendly website?

Rather than go into a big long spiel and confuse the person I just show them a couple of screenshots of my client’s analytics statistics, one of which is this image of a client who was running a very successful Facebook campaign.

From these statistics, when accounting for the Facebook views only, over 88% of those are from mobile devices.

Mobile Responsive Design

A few Reasons why Mobile Websites are SO Important

As per Google’s search engine algorithm update of April of 2015, Google says that it now gives preference to sites that are mobile friendly. Therefore it will penalise you if your site is not easy to read and is not as the user should expect it to be.

Mobile devices are now used more to browse the web than traditional desktop computers. As well as just web browsing, online purchases on a mobile device have now surpassed purchases made on desktops.

Even though responsive websites tend to cost a small bit more and take a little longer to put together, in the long run, these sites are much easier to manage, amend and upgrade making the site more cost effective over its lifecycle. Also as Google recommends a responsive approach, its easier to get the site to stat ranking on Google’s search engine and should reduce your SEO budget.

An optimized and consistent site, no matter what platform it’s viewed on, provides a better experience for the user, which is more likely to lead to them engaging with you than going elsewhere.

Why not click here and check to see if your sites mobile friendly.
